How to Refill R410A Gas for Your Aircon?
How to Refill R410A Gas for Your Aircon? If your air conditioning unit is not cooling properly then a low level of refrigerant in it can be one of the main reasons for this problem. In such a condition, you will have to refill the refrigerant. Earlier various types of refrigerants including R22 gas etc. were used for this purpose but now R410A gas is considered the safest refrigerant for the environment as well as your aircon. But it has to be refilled very carefully as it can cause frostbite if any part of your body is exposed to it.
Some tips to refill R410A gas safely in your aircon are provided in this write-up for your guidance.
Preparation
Before starting to refill R410A gas you will have to be prepared for it. It can be easy to refill the refrigerant in the AC if you are equipped with proper safety measures and equipment. You should have a pair of eyeglasses to protect your eyes and gloves to protect your hands. Equipment required for this purpose may include manifold gauge set for AC, Vacuum Pump with 1-4 horsepower and refrigerant. You will have to start and accomplish the procedure patiently to avoid any unwanted situation.
Refilling the refrigerant
First of all, you should find the discharge line on the high side and suction line on the low side of your air conditioner. I window AC you can find them on the back of the device and the outer unit in split AC. The suction line located above the line of discharge remains cool by touch whereas the discharge line remains warm. The refrigerant is recharged into the aircon through its suction line.
Your second step is to unscrew the suction line by loosening the bolt inside it by using a Torx hex key. You should not remove the screw from the suction line as it will control the flow of refrigerant as a valve by not allowing it to flow out or in until it is attached to the line. So to refill the R410A gas in the aircon it is necessary to loosen the screw of the suction line.
Now take the blue hose from the manifold gauge kit of AC to attach to the port on the suction line by removing the bolt. Now you should attach the vacuum pump to the yellow hose from the kit. The entire air in your system has to be removed before refilling the gas as the moisture in the air can damage the compressor.
At this stage, you should ensure that all the valves of the manifold gauge of the AC are closed properly. Now yellow hose should be connected to the tank containing R410A gas. The yellow hose should be loosened slightly at the end of the manifold before opening the knob of the gas tank. Now the knob of the gas tank should be opened just for a second and closed immediately. It will help you in removing the entire air in the pipes connected to your aircon.
Now, for 3-4 seconds, you will have to open the knob on the lower side of the manifold and close it instantly. Now you should turn on your AC and wait for the starting of its compressor.
The valve on the lower side of the manifold should be opened again as the compressor starts. Open the valve for 4 seconds and close it for a few seconds. When the valve is closed you should note the level of pressure settled on the gauge as you will have to continue the process of opening and closing the valve until the pressure on the gauge settles between 60 PSI and 70 PSI.
At this stage, you should also keep in mind that the refrigerant is refilled into an aircon in small amounts in a gradual manner as it can damage your compressor if R410A gas is released instantly in the large amount.
As the pressure on the gauge settles within the range of 60-70 PSI you should close the valve of the manifold, close the knob of the tank containing refrigerant. From the suction line, you should unscrew blue hose to remove it and from the refrigerant tank, the yellow hose should be unscrewed to remove.
Thus the process of refilling R410A gas into your aircon can be completed safely.
